Bear's Den - Sahara (Official Video) - beautiful

Goodbye Minor Project!

For the past 9 weeks i have been hard at work for my minor project for uni. For this project i chose the theme of "Britain is Beautiful" which i will also be carrying through to my Final Major Project! i am so passionate about our lovely country and love trying to portray this in to my own work, with the intention to inspire others. I wanted to capture the essence of beauty and warmth for the viewer to perceive in their own individual way and to simply put a smile on their face.

Here is the final collection displayed in my work bay ready to be marked!

I focused mainly on scarves and handkerchiefs and the potential outcome for such fashion accessories, and the different ways they can me interpreted!

Asia Adventure

This summer has been one of new and old adventures!

I was lucky enough to revisit Hand & Lock, an established embroidery company in London, who i spent a month with last summer! I loved seeing familiar and new faces at this lovely and friendly company and once again learnt an awful lot!

Thanks Hand & Lock!

But for my latest adventure three friends and myself set off for south east Asia for a month, travelling around Thailand, Vietnam and Laos! This is a new continent for me to explore and i couldn't wait to get absorbed in to a new culture.

These beautiful and incredible countries were each such unique experiences, and i couldn't have had a more amazing time. Each country has such a different feel, with its own fascinating history and such warm and friendly locals, but having so many similarities, making it feel like a new start everywhere we went and yet always so easy to feel right at home. And don't get me started on the food! (drooling as we speak...)

But there's no better way to describe these amazing places than through the power or sight, so here are a few images that i hope will inspire you as much as they inspire me.

I LOVE POST!

Over the past few weeks i have been eagerly awaiting some very exciting post; my first printed works on paper and fabric!

I have of course used digital printing at university, but this summer i thought i would branch out and find a company who i trust to print my work for me!

I have some fabric on its way that i will turn in to scarves, but today my paper designs came, suitable (potentially...) for either wrapping paper, or wall paper!

Not my regular floral style, but here is my first printed paper design...

If you are interested in printing some of  your own work off, i definitely recommend the Services of Spoonflower!

You can check out what they have to offer here: http://www.spoonflower.com/welcome

Can't WAIT to share with you how my scarves turn out! How jolly exciting!

Welcome, Sunshine!

What lovely weather we have been having lately! And how very inspiring it is too!

Over the past week i have been enjoying the sunshine immensely, and have been soaking up all the sun and all its glory around the lovely Sussex!

All this beauty around me has given me the urge to paint again, and to snap up lots of pictures everywhere i go!

Here are a few moments that i couldnt pass by:

I hope you too, are enjoying the summer!

John Thompson

I thought it was time that i introduced you to one of my favourite artists.
For well over a year now i have been completely in love with the paintings produced by John Thompson, an artist currently based in West Sussex. I first discovered his work at Wakehurst Place on display, and was lucky to meet him and watch him paint! He has a lovely spot in the old manor house at Wakehurst, where you can watch him paint, have a little chat and if you have children he encourages them to paint straight on to canvas', which are often used for their own exhibitions and for calendars sold at wakehurst!

He is a genuine and kind man with an enormous talent and i encourage you to have a look at his work!

He paints mostly landscapes and British countryside, with a very free and expressive style, bursting with colour and life!

Here are a few of my favourites of his paintings:

You can see more of his work on his website: http://johnthompson.theartistsweb.co.uk/

Something different...

My style is often very painterly, and usually very floral! So i thought i'd experiment with photoshop (yup, still obsessed) and try something different...
I've gone geometric! Good heavens.

Using my paintings and photos of flowers, i have tried to create some interesting linear designs.

Here is the outcome...

My First Competition!

A few weeks ago i entered my first ever competition! HOW EXCITING!
And as the entry close date is getting closer i am getting incredibly itchy feet! I simply can not wait to see who the shortlist is! Fingers crossed!

I entered a tigerprint competition, as since working on the hallmark project i have been addicted to paper and digital design and couldn't wait to get my hands on competition brief!

Tigerprint competitions are great, as they always have one going and they are always fresh and exciting for new designers! They are also really straightforward to enter work in to, which takes away that extra faff and stress!

Here are the designs i entered:

Wish me luck!!!

If you are interested in the tigerprint competions, definitely check them out! Here is the link to their website:

A very sneaky preview!

Over the past few weeks I have been hard at work on my current project at uni. Our last module is an individual project, so naturally I have based mine around flowers! I have gone with the name "all things bright and beautiful" as I want to create a collection that is simply lovely and beautiful. I think flowers are quite special, and mean something different to everyone. They make me smile just because they are lovely, and I love to think that I could do the same for others through my work.

I am printing a collection of scarves, that I will be taking with me to New York, for the brilliant trade show; Surtex! And I cannot wait !

I am absolutely loving transferring my painting on to fabric! And here is a cheeky preview of some of the work I am having printed on to fabric!

I hope you like them!
